I'm Often Asked...
Well I’m often asked a lot of things really, but most often what I get asked isn’t usually a properly posed question. What I usually get is “Huh?” With a lot more question marks. Obviously, part of the problem is that I was born with a clave in my mouth. Beyond that, there was something else called dyslexia, which led me to something else I still call exquision – the immediate delight that one gets from the most unexpected and often accidental happenings. I’ve heard some people call them happy accidents. Fortunately for me, I’m not one those people. That said, there’s also some other people that have wanted to call me an inventor, but to this day, I consider the art and act of inventing to be only one aspect of my own personal me-ness. There’s way too much other stuff going on to actually only be inventive. Inventions will often happen while I’m at work on my drawing table and without thinking about it, an idea will come into my mind that... um, come to think of it, I’ve had an idea...

A long-standing member of Vancouver’s music community, Jim Salmon has been the go-to percussionist for studios around Vancouver playing congas, timbales, shakers or a myriad of old, new, traditional and some not so traditional noisemaking devices since the early 1970’s.The inventor of the Jestick® and other percussive instruments, as a performer Jim has toured with Valdy, Norm Foote and many others. Jim has also put his valuable skills to use as a stage manager and lighting director in every major city in Canada and the US (including 14 years at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival with 60,000 attendance; and Lolapalooza with 55,000 attendance, to name a few).A native of Vancouver, Jim’s also worked with Quest Records as a percussionist for more than 20 years.
